In an post to twitter today which you can see below, 1047 Games CEO Ian Proulx announced the news that the game will be delayed. Citing a three day crunch to get the final build ready for launch, resulting in not enough time to test for bugs and secure a stable launch. Instead of trying to fix it all with an update after launch or stay on the crunch to get the game ready. The team has opted take some time to recover before coming back and seem optimistic to get the game out for Friday.
In a time where crunch is under the microscope of discussion in the gaming industry. It is good to see a development team being transparent about how it is affecting them and their reactions to its affects. Above all it shows how much they care about their game, their aim isn’t to get something out but a completed project that truly represents their passion. We’ve heard all types of stories about how crunch is destroying not only projects, but more importantly the developers behind some of our favourite games. I wish the team at 1047 games all the best with development and the launch of Splitgate.
If you want to know what I thought of Splitgate, I’ve written a preview of what I played during the Beta. Spoilers I had a lot of fun with it.
