Nintendo E3 directs are a special event, as it is the one place that you can expect the big Nintendo announcements. While Nintendo has directs throughout the year, they can vary in their content. So strap in and get ready for all the crazy hype of Nintendo fans as the switch gets pretty much every game under the sun added to it’s catalogue of games. You can watch the full direct here or just catch up on one of the many announcements you missed below.
[Updated the article with trailers that were missing.]
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Character Pack – Dragon Quest Heroes
The Heroes of Dragon Quest are coming to show those Fire Emblem fools how it’s done. This is an amazing announcement for Dragon Quest and Smash fans alike. The last character pack was a fantastic edition to the game and we only have to wait till summer to get it.
Dragon Quest 11 switch
Like I mentioned yesterday, Dragon Quest 11 is coming to switch and is well worth the purchase. There’s a load of extra features for this version as well, it might just tempt me into another playthrough.
Lugi Mantion 3
Lugi is back at it with torch in hand and vacuum on back. When the original released back on GameCube, I was instantly enamored with the idea of Ghostbusters with Mario characters. Now we are finally getting one on the switch and I couldn’t be happier.
Dark crystal game
Ok this is a weird one and I’m not just saying that because dark crystal is getting a sequel. A tactics game isn’t a bad idea but with Fire Emblem so close I can’t think of a reason to pick it up. Though if your really into the movie then this might just be for you.
A remake that is both adorable and looks like a blast to play? Add on to that a dungeon creator for replay ability!!! Ok Nintendo, no reason to go overboard I’ve got my wallet right here.
Trials of Mana & Collection of Mana
Another great JRPG remake to keep you happy on switch and the original three games for everyone that missed out. I don’t care if JRPG’s aren’t your thing, you got to admit it’s cool.
Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Switch
I love the Witcher series, I’ve bought Witcher 3 three times alone and have multiple playthroughs. Saying that, I don’t know how to feel about this. On one hand it is cool that they got it working on a switch. The other though is me wondering how well it does run in combat and how much did they have to bring down the resolution. We will just have to wait for now and hope it isn’t as bad as I think it might be.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Fire Emblem: Three Houses is only a month out and you can see Nintendo is gearing up for it’s launch. I’m super excited to play fire emblem again. Especially to be able to play it on a big screen, it will make those story moments all the more cinematic.
Resident evil 5 & 6
Nintendo also dropped a small video announcing that Resident Evil 5 and 6 will be joining the store. Resident Evil Remake, Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil 4 are already available now. Resident Evil 5 (Not the worst game in the series) and Resident Evil 6 (By far the worst game in the series) will be joining them in the Fall.
No More Heroes 3
A nice surprise was No more Heroes 3 showing up during the direct. We knew that eventually another main line title would come but so soon is fantastic. I’m happy that we are getting more Travis Touchdown in our lives and I expect Suda 51 to go balls to the walls crazy with the game.
Contra is back and now a isometric shooter. It seems like the devs had fun making it as crazy as possible. They also showed off the Anniversary Collection for all your how ever many bit needs.
Daemon x Machina
Mecha Anime the game is looking very polished and ready for all you mecha lovers. The demo is still available for those that want to give it a try, I’d recommend playing in docked mode with a controller. Sadly I don’t think I’ll be playing this with how filled to the brim September is now.
Panzer Dragoon came out of nowhere with gameplay and a release window of winter 2019.
Pokemon Sword and Shield
More Sword and shield is never a bad thing. We got to see one of the new gym leaders, this time water. Nintendo even dropped 21 minutes of gameplay at the Nintendo treehouse event. Oh and they have a pokemon that is a corgi, they really aren’t playing fair.
Platinum showed off their new switch action game, it’s part pokemon capture game, part hack and slash. I love me some new IP and Platinum is a solid action game developer. Even better they are just barely getting ahead of the September madness with a August 30th launch date.
Empire of Sin
A cool little mafia game with top down action, micromanagement and most hopefully some beat downs to deliver. It’s an interesting title for switch, which is expanding it’s library with more games aimed at an adult audience.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3
While I would have preferred Ultimate Alliance 3 around the same time Endgame released in theatres. The Marvel hype is still in the air and this brings all of marvels greatest characters together. We even get some more obscure ones like Elsa Bloodstone and with even more characters coming in the expansion pass. It’s a good time to be a marvel fan.
Cadence of Hyrule
Crypt of the NecroDancer is getting a Hyrulien skin, with this brand new adventure from the same developers. I love the idea and as someone that didn’t pick up NecroDancer this just might pull me in to give it a shot.
Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games 2020
Get ready mini-game fans, Mario & Sonic are back at the Olympics. Personally this isn’t for me, though I do understand these games do have a market. Even better when they get kids involved into moving and having fun.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons
I can say for certainty, that animal crossing isn’t for me. I do know people that love it and enjoy it’s gameplay but I just find it too boring. The biggest news for Animal Crossing fan was the march 20th 2020 release date. I know a couple of people crying themselves to sleep tonight.
Spyro remastered trilogy is going to hit the Switch on September 3rd this year.
Hollow Knight Silk
We got a quick snippet of Hollow Knight’s new spin-off game Sliksong. (trailer below is announcement trailer from February)
Ni no Kuni
Not only are we getting one of the greatest adventures on current gen consoles but also on the switch. Studio Ghibli (yes that one) worked on this and you can tell from it’s story to the animated cutscenes. I’m really looking forward to jumping back into it and no I’m not crying, your crying!!!
Minecraft Dungeon’s is also going to be on the Switch. Which is perfect for this dungeon crawler.
The Elder Scrolls Blades
Another reminder that Elder Scrolls Blades will be hitting the switch. You can even transfer your progress over if you’ve been playing on mobile. Perfect for those that don’t want to have to start from scratch.
My Friend Pedro
My Friend Predo is if you wanted to relive the matrix but with more flips and talking bananas. It’s already out for PC but soon Switch uses will be able to do all the flips and head kicking they want.
Just like how Doom got ported to the Switch and still was somehow good. Doom Eternal is following it it’s footsteps and should be a good time even at 30 FPS.
The Sinking City
If your into laying in bad and having a cthulhuian/lovecraftian experience, then The Sinking City is for you. You’ll get to explore it’s open world and investigate the goings-on of the city and it’s inhabitants.
Wolfenstain is also coming back to the Switch. I’m still not sold on the new game, but options are never a bad thing and at least Bethesda is thinking about Switch users.
(Trailer is from Bethesda conference, not switch gameplay)
Dead by Daylight
Talking about both horror and violence. Dead by Daylight is hitting the switch in September, what is with everyone and September. though the true horror might just be if you can actually see anything. From previous footage shown at the last direct, visibility is the biggest problem I have with the game. If it makes it harder to find or see the hunters/victims why would I play on switch?
At least Aliens shouldn’t disappoint. One of the best uses of the franchise to date, Isolation will most certainly cause people to scream in terror. Maybe don’t play this one on a plane.
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered
More Final Fantasy on the switch will most certainly make people happy.
Dragon Quest Builders 2
If Mincraft Dungeons won’t scratch that crafting and building itch then luckily Dragon Quest Builders 2 is here.
(This is a trailer previously shown at the Square Enix E3 conference)
Stranger Things 3 The Game
Oh yeah Stranger Things is getting a game, cool.
(Trailer is from March 2019)
Don’t worry everyone Just Dance is here to remind you just how uncoordinated you are. Now though you can take it on the go, so your friends can’t weasel their way out of it.
Catan is very popular board game and it’s coming to Switch for all you boardgame fans. You don’t have to wait long either, with a June 20th release date.
New Super Lucky’s Tale
Originally a XBOX One console exclusive, Lucky’s Tale will soon be showing off his platforming chops to Nintendo in Fall 2019. If we don’t get some sort of Mario crossover, someone isn’t doing their job right.
Monster Hunter isn’t for everyone, luckily Dauntless is much easier to get into and is free! Your not able to jump in right now though as the game isn’t coming to switch till late 2019. With it’s cross-play functions it makes sense why it isn’t out now but hopefully the wait doesn’t kill you.
Super Mario Maker 2
Nintendo’s big title for June doesn’t want you forgetting how close it is. I’m sure when it launches people will be rushing to create some of the most torturous levels possible.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Character Pack – Banjo-Kazooie
Not one but two character packs not only announced but with gameplay! I’m impressed and saying Banjo-Kazooie isn’t one of the most beloved game characters is an understatement. I look forward to the many people that will stomp me into the ground and just generally troll me.
Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild Sequel
I’m not above admitting I lost my sh@#, when this popped up on screen. The fact that we are not only getting a Zelda using the same engine as BOTW but also a direct sequel, is something else. I can’t wait for some breakdowns of the trailer. For now though it seems like Zelda and Link are hunting down the source of Ganon’s corruption from the first game. The only other thing of note is the glowing artefact hand holding Ganon in place. This could be used for the main mechanic of the game or just a important object to the story. Other then that we have no clue what to expect from this sequel. Nintendo did play it safe by not giving a release window, though just the promise of it being in development is enough.
Nintendo’s E3 direct was filled with surprises and game galore. There wasn’t any hardware announcements in the direct. When there is so much software to announce though, it makes sense on saving any type of announcement like that for when Nintendo has some room to breathe. I’m going to be a very happy switch user, but what about you? Did you enjoy the direct? What are you hyped about? Let me know in the comments below and if you want to catch up on E3, then I’ve got you covered. With articles on Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, all the news/trailers from the XBOX, Ubisoft and Square Enix conferences.
